Taking Some Time Off
Nothing says “time off” quite like the phrase Gone Fishing—even though I have absolutely no interest in fishing. Like many New York City therapists, I’ll be taking the month of August off. That means there won’t be any new editions of Schwartz Shorts until Sunday, September 6. Don’t worry—I still have dozens of stories and observations to share.
My streak of 85 onsecutive weeks publishing may not quite rival Cal Ripken Jr.’s 2,632 consecutive games, but I’m still proud of it. When Schwartz Shorts launched, Vegas set the over-under at five weeks—and there was heavy action on the under.
I’ll be doing a bit of traveling this month, and Peter (my editor) and I are planning our own version of a writing retreat in Wisconsin. Between visiting an alpaca farm and watching a Green Bay Packers practice, we hope to make some progress on new essays, think about where Schwartz Shorts goes next, and explore ideas for growing the audience.
My absolute favorite thing about retirement is writing this Substack and sharing it with you. It’s been incredibly gratifying. Thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing these essays. I appreciate your support, and I look forward to being back with new material in September.
And don’t worry—we won’t be sending you any surveys.

Enjoy your time off!!!!
